Upgrade for Student Village

September 7, 2010

On-campus student residence, Murdoch University Village (MUV), is set to continue its significant investment in apartment refurbishments and operational improvements between 2010 and 2013.

Murdoch University Village is managed by global student accommodation specialists, Campus Living Villages.

The upgrades are part of a Village enhancement program dedicated to the ongoing improvement of the resident experience.

The refurbishment will include bathrooms, kitchens, common areas and bedrooms in apartments originally built by Murdoch University throughout the 1980’s. During this time, the Village will take the opportunity to install water and power saving features such as dual flush toilets, low-flow showerheads and energy efficient appliances.

“These features will help combat rising utility prices in the region and enhance the sustainability of the Village and its operations,” says Chad Daly, General Manager of Murdoch University Village.

Murdoch University Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, Gary Martin, says that the investment in accommodation would contribute to enriching the student experience at the University.

“We also applaud Campus Living Villages on its approach to investing in enhancements to the Village which will improve efficiency in terms of power and water usage,” Professor Martin says.

“The University is committed to development of sustainable futures and we are delighted that CLV has a similar vision,” he says.

This upgrade is on top of an extensive common area refurbishment project completed at MUV in January 2010. The common area refurbishment project included a computer lab, boardroom, group study lounge, recreation facilities, communal cooking facilities and a pool lounge with an outdoor bbq area.

The common area facilities were provided to support MUV’s Live, Learn, Grow residential life program launched in semester one, 2010. The Live, Learn, Grow program is designed to enhance the student experience, offering events to support a balanced lifestyle through social, academic and personal development.

“Our responsibility goes beyond providing a bed for residents,” says Daly. “By continuously enhancing student life at MUV, we aim to make living at the Village an indispensable part of the university experience.”
