Nearly 300 Murdoch-shirt-wearing runners and walkers participated in yesterday’s City to Surf race.
More than 145 Murdoch University staff registered for the event and most of them brought a friend or family member to join Team Murdoch.
All the Murdoch participants were reported to have finished with the exception of one half-marathon competitor who sustained an injury during the competition.
A record 40,468 people registered for City to Surf, which saw several records broken and nearly $351,000 raised for charity. The half-marathon part of the event was the biggest Western Australia had ever seen, with 2889 runners.
Kenyan Chelimo Luka Kipkemboi won the marathon in a record two hours, 14 minutes and 41 seconds. The women’s winner, Ethiopian Mulu Seboka, also broke the previous women’s record by nearly eight minutes, finishing in two hours, 35 minutes and two seconds.
