Sun shines on record-breaking Open Day July 31, 2017 Free Your Think: Acting Vice Chancellor Professor David Morrison (right) speaks to prospective students at Open Day 2017 A record number of future students flocked to Murdoch's Perth campus yesterday for the biggest ever Open Day in the University’s history. More than 21,000 people from Perth and beyond enjoyed the weekend sunshine as they explored the campus to learn more about Murdoch. Visitors were encouraged to ‘free their think’ as they learnt about Murdoch’s courses, facilities and career options. They also had the chance to meet Murdoch’s inspirational students and staff while being entertained by an array of musical and dance acts, fairground rides, arts and crafts workshops and many other family-friendly activities. Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor David Morrison, said there was a festival buzz throughout campus as future students explored their options. “From the Vet School to Law via Bush Court, every area of campus has been busy,” he said. “Our course hotspots, which showcase the Murdoch experience, have proved extremely popular. “Visitors have been able to play computer games designed by Murdoch students, enjoy a soft tissue massage in chiropractic and tour our wetlands and campus farm. “Future students have also been able to meet many of our internationally-renowned researchers and find out how they are helping to solve the world’s big problems. “Not only could they be taught by them, but they might be inspired to become our future research stars themselves. “This is an important time of year for Year 12 students especially and we hope Open Day helped to guide their decisions about their future.” Year 12 student Cara Powner from Serpentine Jarrahdale Grammar School, said she had enjoyed learning about what Murdoch had to offer in chemistry, physics and engineering. “It’s been a very worthwhile and interesting visit,” she said. “The students and staff I spoke to assured me that I had chosen the right subjects at ATAR to be able to pursue these topics at university.” Emma Craig will be starting her Murdoch journey on the first day of Semester 2 today after enrolling at Murdoch on Open Day. “I had already decided I wanted to study English and Creative Writing at Murdoch but the Open Day has given me the chance to orientate myself on campus and speak to some key people,” she said.
