Opinion: Manna to Islamist extremists – a heavy price will be paid for Trump’s ban

February 1, 2017

Dr Ameer AliPresident Trump’s executive order to halt (temporarily) Muslim migrants from selected Muslim-majority countries is manna to the Islamist extremists and to the anti-Muslim bigots, writes Dr Ameer Ali from Murdoch University’s School of Business and Governance.

In an opinion article for The West Australian, Dr Ali says the President’s decision will swell the stock of suicide bombers and would-be martyrs in the Islamic camp, while fueling the fire of anti-Muslim bigots in the West.

He also warns that other western countries will not be immune to “a new wave of anti-American anger of IS sympathisers”, and increasingly scarce resources will need to be spent on security measures to combat domestic terrorism.

Dr Ali also calls for Muslim leaders to rethink the way they retail Islam to the masses. He says several terrorism group leaders and foot soldiers attended the same educational institutions as imams, but the former group are still turning to violence.
