Open air movie season begins at Murdoch November 9, 2016 Telethon Community Cinemas begins its latest run of outdoor movies on campus on 10 November with a screening of the Clint Eastwood-directed drama Sully. Lower Bush Court has been transformed for the fundraising season, which runs until Saturday, 4 February. A team of dedicated volunteers will be running proceedings to ensure that Telethon Community Cinemas can donate all profits to charities dedicated to helping children living in a health or physical ability crisis. The organisation recently announced that a record breaking $811,569.87 was raised in 2016 thanks to seasons at Murdoch and other locations in the Perth metropolitan region. Event Coordinator, Ken Gibbons, said he was humbled by the huge total, the 15th consecutive year Telethon Community Cinemas had increased its charitable donations. “We are truly amazed by how Community Cinemas has exploded in popularity, particularly in the last three years,” he said. “The Murdoch venue has also proved popular with movie goers and we are pleased to partner with the University on a project that benefits the local community and Perth charities.” Telethon Community Cinemas has managed to recruit an enthusiastic team of volunteers, including Murdoch University staff and students, to sell tickets, work on the drinks and candy bars and arrange the bean bags and rubbish bins every night. The film program boasts family-friendly movies, summer blockbusters and Oscar hopefuls including The Secret Life of Pets, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Doctor Strange. Tickets can be purchased and the full program for the Murdoch season can be viewed on the Telethon Community Cinemas website here. *** On Friday night, the venue will host a private screening event for as many as 500 Murdoch alumni and their families. Free tickets for the screening of The Girl on the Train were snapped up within two hours of being advertised. A second private event for Murdoch alumni and their families will take place on Sunday, 29 January, with a screening of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
