New Singapore role signals Murdoch’s commitment to region February 21, 2013 Murdoch University has welcomed Dr Peter Waring as the University’s first Singapore Principal. As Murdoch’s Singapore Principal, Dr Waring will be responsible for advancing the University’s academic and strategic interests in Singapore, primarily through the management of the University’s transnational partners. Dr Waring will be based in Singapore, where he will establish the Office of the Singapore Principal, but he is also expected to spend several weeks of the year in Perth. He has an impressive academic record and is looking forward to facilitating effective academic collaboration between staff in Perth and Singapore. “I'm delighted and honoured to be joining Murdoch as its Singapore Principal,” Dr Waring said. “The establishment of this role not only signals the University's commitment to quality but also its reputation as a leader of engagement strategies in the Asian Century." Dr Waring joins Murdoch from the University of Newcastle in Singapore, where he has been Associate Professor and Deputy Chief Executive. For the past few months he has also been Newcastle’s Acting Pro Vice Chancellor International. Phil Payne, Vice President – Educational Partnerships, said he was delighted that Dr Waring was joining Murdoch. “Dr Waring was the stand-out candidate in a very strong field of applicants.
