Murdoch University will refocus its Rockingham Campus activities to concentrate on research and University pathway programs, following an extensive review of its operations.

As part of this plan, the undergraduate programs delivered by the School of Education at Rockingham will be consolidated at our South Street Campus from Semester 1, 2015.

Murdoch University Vice Chancellor Professor Richard Higgott said the review paved the way for a new strategic direction for the Rockingham Campus, allowing the University to build on its existing research capability and develop further the highly successful University pathway programs.

“What the review identified is that Murdoch has an opportunity to make a positive difference in the region in a different way than it previously has,” Professor Higgott said.

“Our number one priority is to ensure that our current and future students continue to receive an excellent learning, teaching and student experience.

“We believe that delivering all Education Programs at the South Street Campus will benefit students by providing them with access to a vibrant campus life, a more holistic student experience and better access to health, medical, sporting and recreational facilities, pastoral care, career and other student support services.

“The fact is, the majority of our students from the Rockingham area are actually studying at our South Street campus where there is a full range of courses on offer and a much more vibrant campus life. The demographic in Rockingham has changed greatly in the past decade, as has the public transport infrastructure and as a University we must evolve with those changes and remain certain we are delivering the very best to the community and to our student body.”

Professor Higgott said that Murdoch would provide a number of support services to Rockingham Education students including a student support bursary for those who re-enrol at South Street in 2015. This will assist eligible students with the extra costs associated with continuing their studies at South Street.

A Rockingham Campus Planning Group will be established to identify research opportunities for the campus and how to continue to grow and expand Murdoch’s pathway programs including OnTrack and MAP4U.
