Get ready to rock at Murdoch!

July 31, 2013

Music fans are in for a treat next month, with two top local acts locked in to perform at Murdoch Open Day.

Local band Stillwater Giants will entertain the crowds at Open Day 2013.

Local talent Stillwater Giants will take to the stage first at 2pm, entertaining the crowds with their laid back style of indie pop.

Growing up in Margaret River and Perth, the crew from Stillwater Giants understand the local scene and are sure to put on a great show for the crowd of thousands expected at Murdoch's South Street campus.

No strangers to the festival circuit, the foursome have opened shows for Van She and The Medics, and were the first band to play the new Perth Arena.

With their latest single Fly Under the Radar frequently played on Triple J, the soaring vocals, floating guitars and brilliant harmonies are sure to impress.

Alternative rockers The Chemist have local links too. From humble beginnings in Hamilton Hill, they turned heads at WA's iconic Next Big Thing competition, finishing runners-up in 2007.

Now, with debut full-length album Ballet in the Badlands under their belt, and fresh from an appearance at Splendour in the Grass, the band will hit the Bush Court stage at 3pm.

"The Chemist have already established themselves as rising local stars, which makes them a great fit for Murdoch Open Day 2013," said Tim Martin, Director of Domestic Recruitment and Liaison.

"We want people to have a great time on campus, while learning a bit more about what Murdoch has to offer."

Murdoch Open Day is a community event, allowing visitors to learn more about studying at Murdoch University and the exciting developments on campus. Alongside the performances will be rides, competitions and a wide range of activities and demonstrations. This is a smoke-free event.

Murdoch Open Day will be held on Sunday, August 18 between 10am and 4pm. For more information, visit
