Murdoch University Open Day 2017: Future students can learn more about their career options.

Murdoch's annual Open Day will give prospective students the chance to learn more about the courses and career options on offer at the University.

Sunday 30 July is set to be the biggest Open Day yet, with a huge range of fun and educational activities set to attract thousands onto the Perth Campus.

It’s also a chance for visitors to meet and question students and staff and explore Murdoch’s lush campus – one of the biggest in Australia.

Murdoch University Vice Chancellor Professor Eeva Leinonen said the event was about providing visitors with a taste of University life.

“Murdoch is a place where natural curiosity thrives and the huge range of activities on the day will inspire a sense of wonder in all that can be achieved here,” Professor Leinonen said.

“Through the huge array of course hotspots, engaging activities, presentations and performances, prospective students will discover that Murdoch is a place where new ways of thinking and doing can be found.”

The day will begin on Bush Court – the beating heart of Murdoch’s Perth campus – with a big team of volunteers situated in and around a number of domes arranged to symbolise the lifecycle of a university student.

Inside the domes, guidance will be offered on course options, alternative pathways into Murdoch, enrolments, fees and scholarships, student support, overseas study opportunities and student accommodation.

Those interested in postgraduate study will be able to chat to academics to find out how to forge ahead in industry and research.

Dozens of course hotspots, manned by staff and students eager to pass on their wisdom and advice about life at Murdoch, will be situated around the University.

Regular tram tours will help visitors explore the 227-hectare campus. Guided tours of facilities including the state-of-the-art nursing simulation suites, the Media Arts Centre, the working farm and wetlands, will also be available.

For the wider community, Open Day is a fun and informative day out with free fairground rides, arts and craft activities, Aboriginal cultural activities, food trucks, sporting demonstrations and performances by local music and dance artists.

Murdoch Events Manager Glenn Hamilton said the day would also include sport demonstrations, a climbing wall and an inflatable cricket net and soccer pitch to try thanks to partnerships with Winning Edge Academy, Western Australian Cricket Association and Melville City Football Club.

“Visitors can meet our team of friendly Library dogs, who bring smiles to studying students on a regular basis with their visits to the Geoffrey Bolton Library,” Mr Hamilton said.

“There will be an opportunity to have a ‘swim’ in the Murdoch Pool on Bush Court, which is actually a huge ball pit for adults, with a smaller version for youngsters situated right next door.”
