Free magical music event returns to Murdoch

January 9, 2017

Music at MurdochA free ticketed concert by Perth Symphony Orchestra (PSO) will transform the leafy surrounds of Murdoch University’s Perth Campus once more on Sunday, February 19.

Tickets for the annual Music @ Murdoch concert, supported by the City of Melville, will be available via the PSO website from 9am on Wednesday, February 1.

Musicians from PSO will accompany special guest singers to perform musical theatre, film classics and rock hits.

Support acts will include Murdoch University student Kathryn McCarthy and Australian idol finalist Chris Murphy.

The gates will open at 4.30pm, with free parking and a food circus provided by Hawaiian.

“PSO was founded five years ago with a desire to take music out of the concert hall and into the community to bring people together, so we are delighted to return to Murdoch for what is sure to be an incredible concert,” said Bourby Webster, founder and executive director of PSO.

“While we can’t always perform for free, where we can, we do to ensure there are no barriers to everyone experiencing the magic of the PSO in concert.

“The feedback we had from last year’s concert was fantastic, but people wanted more.

"So we’ve worked miracles and thanks to the City of Melville and Murdoch University increasing their support, we are able to perform a full-length concert this year.

“We are performing some incredible songs from many different genres, to ensure there is something for everyone. We’d really like to hear everyone singing along, so warm up those vocal chords beforehand!”

Glenn Hamilton, Manager of Events at Murdoch University, said the inaugural Music @ Murdoch Concert in early 2016 had proved hugely popular, attracting 2,500 music lovers to Murdoch’s Perth campus.

“It was wonderful to welcome so many people onto our campus last year for an atmospheric night of great music under the stars,” he said.

“We are committed to supporting and engaging with the community, and the Music @ Murdoch concert helps us to give something back. We’re looking forward to greeting music lovers and showcasing our beautiful campus again.”

City of Melville Mayor, Russell Aubrey, said the City was delighted to support the event again this year.

“As part of the City’s annual events calendar, Music @ Murdoch provides another wonderful opportunity this summer for the community to come together and enjoy world class performances in the heart of Melville.”

Support for the event comes from the City of Melville, AHG and Hawaiian.

Members of the public will be allowed to book up to four general admission tickets for the event via the PSO website from February 1. VIP ticketing, costing $50, will also be available.
